Appreciating outside this April

Your garden may be in full bloom at this time of year and it’s a great time to start enjoying your space.

These simple jobs can help keep your garden blooming throughout this season and the next.

  • Protect the new growth of your Hosta’s and Lupin’s from slugs and snails.

  • Prune hydrangeas, cutting back to the old stems to promote growth for this year.

  • Sow sunflowers and sweet peas and protect from slugs and snails.

  • Keep on top of weed growth which will become more prolific as the season progresses.

  • Check for pests such as aphids and remove before they can establish.

If you don’t have an outside space to plant, here are some tips for house plants at this time of year

  • Start feeding your houseplants weekly with a liquid fertiliser.

  • Keep plants free of dust to ensure they can absorb as much light as possible.

  • Check plants regularly for pests and treat as necessary.

  • Gradually start watering your houseplants more regularly.
